Review: Breaking Bad, or My First True Series Finale

AMC

I wrote a poem last year entitled "The Ballad of Walt and Jesse". And truly, the entire series is, really, the ballad of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

"The word 'ballad' doesn't mean we have to sing, Jesse! Don't be stupid."

Breaking Bad's "Felina" is my first true television series finale. What's a "true finale", you ask? It's the final episode of a television series that you get to watch in real time, during the actual final broadcast, along with the rest of the fans. No spoiler can ruin a true finale, because you'll be one of the first ones to watch it. You'll be doing the spoiling.

Spoilers. Hehe.

I remember the first time I watched this. The sixth series of Doctor Who had just ended, and I only decided to watch Breaking Bad because there was nothing else to watch─a decision I do not regret at all, to this day.

I remember loving Hank Schrader, because he reminds me of my father. Yes, he's a law enforcer. But they are people, too, and often just like you and me.

Not exactly like you and me.

I remember loving Badger and Skinny Pete, because I've been around drugs long enough to know that the person does not equal the addict.

The best hitmen west of the Mississippi.

I remember loving Saul Goodman, because of Bob Odenkirk.

Give him more shows, please.

I remember hating Gus Fring, because Giancarlo Esposito is just too despicable.

"You're welcome." ─Giancarlo Esposito

I remember hating Skylar slutting herself with Ted Beneke.

Skyler, you slut.

And I remember loving Jesse Pinkman, simply because he's just a sweet young boy trapped in a world he didn't expect.

See? Adorable.

And now I say goodbye to Walter White a.k.a. Heisenberg. I would've wanted the series to end with the Season 4 finale, because that was a happy ending. But the series finale was a happy ending, too. Happy kind of sad, maybe. But still one of the most memorable television finales I have ever experienced. Ever.

Thanks, Vince Gilligan.

Now take that shirt off. Bitch.
