The Vampire Diaries. Season 4. Episode 3: "The Rager"
She's a bitch--and I don't just mean figuratively. |
Hooray for Phoebe Tonkin on The Vampire Diaries! And she's looking good, may I just say, as a werewolf who will most probably square off with Caroline over Tyler. I hope she doesn't die at all, or at least she should have more TVD episodes under her belt before they slit her character's neck.
Homeland. Season 1
Showtime |
If you follow the American awards for television, then you've surely heard of the series Homeland. If you don't, let me refresh your memory.
It won two Golden Globes...
Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama
Claire Danes
Best Television Series - Drama
Showtime "I'm not crazy. Just a really good actress. In a drama series." |
Elementary. Episode 3: "Child Predator"
CBS via DCT |
When we got to the second episode of Elementary, I really, really thought this show would make countless nods and references to the original Arthur Conan Doyle canon. I was wrong.
The Vampire Diaries. Season 4. Episode 2: "Memorial"
It's okay, Damon. We miss him, too. |
Somehow this episode feels a bit cheesy for lighting lanterns and letting them go as a part of grief therapy. What struck me more was Damon's little chat (a monologue, really) with Alaric's tombstone. I knew he considered Alaric a friend, but I always doubted as to what extent. I miss their bromance already.

I mentioned in my previous Cinemalaya reviews this year that independent cinema is dead. That's because major players in the Philippine film industry have started dipping their hands in indie turf.
Well apparently, indie cinema is not dead. It just moved to a different circuit, by the name of Sineng Pambansa.
The new home of Philippine independent cinema. |

*PISS OFF IF YOU HATE SPOILERS*
Erik Matti's much-awaited movie opens today, and Da Couch Tomato was lucky enough to be invited to the premiere showing last Monday.
Complete with hired goons. |
I already gave you three reasons to watch this flick, and now I'm giving you three more.
The Vampire Diaires. Season 4. Episode 1: "Growing Pains"
Of course, she turns in the most subtle way (complete with one tear down her left cheek). |
And... we're back on air, surprisingly with less bang that I had hoped but kind of expected. It feels like a pilot, basically laying the grounds of the new status quo in Mystic Falls. The gang's secret is out of the bag now.

Elementary. Episode 2: "While You Were Sleeping"

First, great OBB. It's like the bastard love child between a Rube Goldberg machine and the pinball number count video from Sesame Street.
Now once you reach the second episode of Elementary, you might be saying to yourself, "Ah, creator Rob Doherty definitely ripped off from BBC's Sherlock. It's quite obvious." Well, you couldn't be more wrong.
Of All The Things
Taken 2 was supposed to be viewed. I dunno why I ended up with Of All The Things. It's okay though because I enjoyed the flick. It was refreshing to watch these types of flicks (way different from how The Mistress looked). Plus, I got to support our Filipino flicks!
If it means supporting this guy, why not? |
Elementary. Episode 1: "Pilot"
CBS |
If you have any fears about how CBS's Elementary might rip off from BBC's Sherlock, now is the time to put those fears to rest. CBS knows that although Sherlock Holmes is part of the public domain, the Steven Moffat version isn't. And so rather than run the risk of infringing any existing copyrights, CBS went a totally different direction.

Doctor Who. Series 7, Episode 5: "The Angels Take Manhattan"
BBC
This episode's title skin: Lady Liberty's crown (partial). |
And finally... a Steven Moffat episode. Thank God. Not that the other writers were bad, mind you. It's just that Steven Moffat is so brilliant.
And this episode showcases Steven Moffat' s most popular and most terrifying monsters─the Weeping Angels. And there's more of them this time. There's cute little baby cherubs.
BBC
These cherubs are technically genderless. |
