Heads Up Battle. Anti-Camcording Ads: Wally & Jose v. John & Randy

Camcording: not one of the best portmanteaus ever created. Somehow, combining the words "camera" and "recording" makes it sound redundant.

In the Philippines, anti-camcording ads are shown in cinemas, and because they are played alongside movie trailers, they cannot afford to be preachy, or else they lose the audience's interest and the ad campaign would have failed. So to drive the message home, they have to resort to comedy.

Now let's review the two anti-camcording ads, and discuss both their strengths and their weaknesses.

"Hindi Masayang Manood ng Sine sa Kulungan"
Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, and Kuya Jobert

This video has a very interesting dynamic between the actors. First of course is the Wally-Jose duo (We miss you, Wally!), already perfected by years of television antics. Now throw in a third element – the whiny-voiced Kuya Jobert. Surprisingly, Jobert's crassness is a perfect fit to Wally and Jose's mass appeal, strengthening their physical gags with their interaction.

"Malabo 'Yan"
John Estrada and Randy Santiago

I'm not sure if that's the official title of the advertisement, because there is no official video of this uploaded on YouTube. Which is why the Negation had to record this illegally, giving us a camcording of an anti-camcording ad.

Unlike the previous video, John and Randy have no third wheel. And even if it's been a while since we've seen them onscreen together, they haven't lost their chemistry. Randy Santiago's LOL moments outnumber John's 4 to 1, but this isn't a competiton, people. This is teamwork.
