World Icons: Neil Armstrong

The Register

The man we know as Neil Armstrong may have passed away yesterday. But what you may not know is that he has lived before, and that Neil Armstrong is just one of his many incarnations on this earth.

During the hunting-gathering period of primitive man, they saw him like this:

The very first murder outline in chalk.

When civilized man came, the ancient Egyptians called him Khonsu.

With the head of a falcon.

When civilization expanded westwards, he was reincarnated as a female, known to the Greeks as Artemis and to the Romans as Diana.

And she was goddess of a lot
of other stuff.

The man on the moon practically vanished from history until 1902, when French filmmaker Georges Méliès accidentally shot him in the eye with a rocket.

Ouch.

Twenty-eight years later, in 1930, he accomplished his latest reincarnation as Neil Armstrong, and fulfilled his destiny on the 20th of July 1969, in the process uttering the most poetic opening lines outside the planet Earth:

"That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."

Even now, I still get goosebumps when I hear it.

If my memory serves me right, yung moon ba yung nasa music vid ng Smashing Pumpkins na Tonight Tonight?

Saka due to technological advancements in audioo recognition and shite, na pick up na yung "a" dun sa "One small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind". But without the "a", it's still badass nonetheless.

HAHAHA Natawa ako dun sa first murder outline!

@The Negation: Yes, that moon appeared in "Tonight, Tonight", but it was taken from the 1902 filmLe voyage dans la lune (A Trip to the Moon) by Georges Méliès.

Also, Neil Armstrong's quote always made sense to me, kahit dati pa. Hehe.

@Julie: Nasaan na ang The Legend of Korra review mo? Hahaha.
