Review: Captain America: The Winter Soldier. IMAX 3D

Fansided

I said before that I am not really that keen on watching any more Marvel movies, with the exception of The Infinity Gauntlet. So I wasn't really excited about watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier, since Captain America wasn't really one of my favourite superheroes, anyway.

But boy, was I wrong.

"Not half as wrong as getting that rebond, eh Scarlett?"

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is possibly the best of the Marvel adaptations to date. And what makes it great can be summarised in one word: STORY.

And action sequences. Wait, is this a painting?

Other superhero flicks, whether from Marvel or DC, share a lot of similarities. One of them is the nature of their narratives. The prevalent narrative form for superhero flicks is that you take a superhero, pair him up with a villain, and then build a story around them. Oftentimes, they don't even build a story─they just take any appropriate story arc from the comic books and transpose it to film.

They've also been known to take a famous actor and build a story around him.

The Winter Soldier is different, in the sense that it seems to have a solid narrative, with characters who just happen to be superheroes. The story is in essence a mystery thriller, not particularly a whodunit since the identity of the actual villain is revealed about halfway through the film. So again, it's a thriller mystery that just happens to be set in the Marvel Universe, with the key players being Marvel heroes. It could have just as well been set in space, or in the Star Wars Universe, or wherever. But then we wouldn't have seen all those badass action sequences.

Including this one with Georges St-Pierre.

*There will be no IMAX nor 3D review, as this was shot in neither.

Okay, just so you don't go home empty-handed: Here are things from this movie that look great on IMAX screens:
