Wrath of the Titans

Warner Bros.

I am generally not a big fan of sequels. Though there are a few exceptions, I generally regard sequels as a sign of capitalist greed, wherein the quality of a release is sacrificed over how much money it can generate in the box office.

Warner Bros.
Can you believe how much they pay this man?

And this film, the sequel to 2010’s Clash of the Titans (which was a remake of the 1981 film of the same title), is no different.

Warner Bros.
"Can't blame me, man. I've got bills to pay."

The film’s still got most of the cast members from the previous film, except for the roles of Andromeda and Ares, which are now played by the pretty Rosamund Pike and Edgar Ramirez, respectively. So that means Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes are back to refresh their mythological roles, complete with the long hair and beard, a.k.a. the “Old Testament look”. Sam Worthington, however, looks hideous with curly hair. He should’ve retained his short crop from the previous flick.

Warner Bros.
Hideous.

This film also has a new director. The previous movie was directed by Louis Letterier, while this one is directed by Jonathan Liebesman. Another new addition to this sequel is one of my favorite actors, Bill Nighy. He plays Hephaestus, the god who forged the three greatest weapons in this mythological universe: Zeus’s Thunderbolt, Hades’s Pitchfork, and Poseidon’s Trident. I hope he gets a spin-off movie.

Warner Bros.
"And I still want Rosamund Pike in it!"

Anyway, like the movie before it, this one sucks. Its only saving grace are the monsters and the special effects, which are top-notch as usual. But then again, no amount of special effects can save a film with a crappy storyline. And I’m not even sure how much of this story is based on actual Greek mythology, and how much is pure fiction.

Warner Bros.
"Yeah, I don't know, either."

Kids, if you want to learn about the great stories of the Greek gods and demi-gods, the greatest place to start is still your school or public library. Just tell the librarian that you’re interested in whether the winged horse Pegasus was actually white or black.

Warner Bros.
"But Columbia Tri-Star says it's white!"

Wrath of the Titans. USA. 2012.

Rating: Six out of ten.
Changing actors for Andromeda and Ares: Minus half a point
Final rating: Five and a half out of ten.

This read definitely put a smile on my face! I couldn’t agree with you more… Sam Worthington cannot rock the curly mullet look. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I will in the next few days. I’ve been hearing both good and bad things about the movie from my friends and Dish coworkers who have seen it. I would like to see the movie myself and make my own opinion, so I’ve already added it to my Blockbuster @Home queue. My friends said the graphics are awesome, so I’ll definitely get the Blu-Ray. At least I’ll have an idea of what to expect from the movie. Thanks for the heads up!

You're welcome, Damon, and thanks for reading. Hehe.
