Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. By Rick O'Riordan

Again, not the cover I read.
And now we see more action. More naval battles. Percy is, after all, the son of Poseidon, and this book has the word “sea” in the title. So there very well should be a naval battle.

But wait a minute—a cliffhanger ending? Brining someone back from the dead? Come on. You do know that it’s possible to create a great series without resorting to cliffhangers, right? I’m talking to you, Rick O’Riordan.
